Quilt – Harry Potter Arrows

Sometimes you come across fabric that you just know will be perfect, and then you start hoping that people will announce that they’re having a baby. Or at least that’s what happened with this quilt!

As soon as I heard that my friend was expecting a baby, I scoured the internet to grab as much of this Harry Potter – Deathly Hallows collection as I could find. It blends the line between ‘sophisticated’ and ‘nerdy’ so well, and it’s such great quality fabric for being a licensed print.

I wanted to choose a pattern that would showcase the fabrics, but also allow for an all-over patchwork style. The Pow Wow pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew has been one of my go-to’s for a quick, impactful pattern, and I adjusted it slightly by removing the sashing between the rows.

I quilted it on my mom’s Janome so that I could use that awesome squiggly stitch! It’s easily my favourite way to machine quilt, since you don’t have to follow seam lines AND it’s not as obvious if your lines aren’t entirely parallel. I also backed it with black minky for extra snugglability.

How great does it look?!

I confess, I got carried away when I made this quilt. I had enough fabric to make both a baby size AND a throw size, so I gifted both! I’m happy to say that both baby and parents have been enjoying the quilts, and that’s really all that matters.

  1. Wonderful idea with the squiggly line quilting. I always over complicate the top quilting. This way you did is easy but adds a oomph of detail.
