September, 2019 (Life Update)

If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll know that this year has been a bit of an adventure for me.  From health scares (both human and canine; don’t worry – everyone is okay!) to having the ceiling in our apartment leaking in five different spots.. this year has had a lot of ups and downs.  Oh yea, and I moved on from my job at Lush and started an entirely new career.  No big deal, right?

I also started my side gig as a solo, creative entrepreneur this year and launched my Etsy shop on August 1! I’ve been slowly working on building up my inventory, and exploring additional avenues of driving traffic to my shop – it’s been a slow process, but I’ve been having a lot of fun with it (and that’s really what matters).

With everything going on this year, my nutrition has fallen completely to the wayside.  I normally eat autoimmune paleo (AIP) style (no grains, dairy, eggs, nuts/seeds, etc.) but for the past 8 months I’ve been eating ‘IDGAF’ style.  Aka, whatever I want, whenever I want.  Needless to say, it hasn’t had a great impact on my health.  When I’m eating properly, I have lots of energy, my ADD symptoms are minimal, and I have significantly more awareness of different social cues, more patience, etc.  When I’m not eating properly, I have a lot of inflammation literally everywhere in my body, I can’t recover from workouts as efficiently, and I have a lot difficulty getting out of bed in the morning.

I distinctly remember talking with my naturopath after eating AIP-style for a few weeks.. and I asked her “Is this what normal, healthy people feel like?” 😂 But the issue is… it’s easy to forget how good you can feel when you’re stuck in a brain fog.

Why am I writing a rambly post about this? Well, after months of not eating properly.. I’ve decided to make my personal health a priority again and get back to it.  It means a lot more time needs to be spent meal prepping – there’s not a lot of easy on-the-go foods I can pick up.  But it also means feeling a lot better on the inside, and that’s what really matters.  And I figure that by posting about it here.. maybe I’ll hold myself more accountable to sticking with it and staying healthy!

Here’s to finishing out the rest of the year with more health, less stress, and lots of quilting!
